Rift 1.5 Interview with Hal Hanlin

Rift’s liberal borrowings from other titles such as Warhammer Online and World of Warcraft occasionally leave it feeling like the Frankenstein’s monster of MMOs, but one thing that separates it from these classics is a noticeable absence of that token niche of players who whine that there aren’t enough content updates. Even while some players are busy dusting off the crumbs from the last pieces of their half-birthday cake, the folks over at Trion are baking up another commotion for Rift’s fifth major content update. It’s a lot to take in, ranging from one-to-two man dungeons and a new PVP warfront to a whole new “planar attunement” system and system add-ons, but Hal Hanlin, Rift’s design producer, was kind enough to sit in for a one-on-one and answer our questions on Friday.
