Lumpy may be a dragon by blood, but he sure as hell doesn’t look like one. Earthbound, shaggy, and possibly stinky, he looks more like a yak with a garbage can lid surgically embedded in his back than something Game of Thrones’ Daenerys Targaryen would use to intimidate the slavers of Astapor. And yet he’s saved my rear dozens of times; certainly more so than some of the traditional flying lizards I keep in my stable. And therein lies the appeal of Sony Online Entertainment’s latest free-to-play massively multiplayer roleplaying game. At its core, this is dragon Pokemon, and it’s a unique enough concept that it had me wanting to catch ’em all early on, but the unrelenting blandness of much of the following hours never allowed that initial spark of interest to grow into flame.
